Variances Explained

No Frick’N Way!

A Toronto based developer is proposing an 8-story tall, 162 unit residential building at the site of the Irish Centre.

The developer is requesting FOUR variances (exceptions) to the property’s Park “P” Zoning.

Variances Explained

The videos show three dimensional renderings of what the development will look like.

Thank you to Sean Crist for creating these!

Only sign the paper petition once!

We have gotten questions as to why we are using paper petitions to oppose this development. We believe that our paper petitions are important for several reasons:

  • These signatures are being collected and verified by people. We can attest that these signatures are all legitimate and from real people.
  • As we collect these signatures we have conversations with our neighbors and communities and engage them in the process. Most of the people we have spoken to in Swissvale and Swisshelm Park were unaware this development was being proposed.
  • Most importantly, our paper petition will show the zoning board, city counsel, media, and the developers that we do NOT want this development to move forward as proposed. Swisshelm Park residents and surrounding communities are very vocal in our opposition to the development put forth by Craft General, and this petition will let the developers know that we are more than a neighborhood whining. We are here, we are motivated, we are united, and we are not staying in our houses letting this happen. We are coming together as a community to oppose the requested zoning variances. Moreover, if the zoning variances are granted, we will continue to work with the goal that the Irish Center parcel is used in a way that respects the parks and communities surrounding it. Any development must be done ethically, safely, and be environmentally sound. We will be active in this endeavor…. And we are – Swisshelm Park, Squirrel Hill, Swissvale, Edgewood, and Wilkinsburg- Frick Park Friends. No Frick’n Way!
